Panama: Interior Landscapes
Interior Landscapes is an ongoing series of photographs by which I try to understand the relationship of our homes and the psychological and emotional state of the people who live there. The objects we choose to surround ourselves with tell a story of who we are. My interest is to get to know and capture the common Panamanian through the objects he/she surrounds himself/herself with; by doing so I want to understand and find similarities and contradictions between various households and social strata. Through an intimate and fixed gaze, I look for ordinary details of everyday life that reflect the inner state of our identity as Panamanians. While the images presented here may depict desolate spaces without the presence of its owners, items like a pot on the stove or a wrinkled pillow imply human presence. By carefully composing each frame and eliminating the people who inhabits the space I want to create a new dialog between the images themselves and their relationship to the viewer, thus inviting him/her to imagine: Who lives there? What do they do? and most importantly, Could I live there?
